Modernizing a Classic Block –Block Party” (quarterly)

We challenge the members to make and donate two or three blocks that modernize a classic quilt block. We intend to assemble the donated blocks into a modern set design and then finish it for donation to philanthropy.

A new challenge will be issued the first month of a quarter. Blocks will be collected at the meeting of the second month. Everyone is invited to stay after the regular meeting to participate in a group activity to layout the design. Using photographs, a member of the program committee will assemble the quilt top to be revealed during the meeting of the third month. At that time, we will ask for a volunteer to quilt and finish the piece.

We are encouraging everyone to use solid color fabrics. Prints that read solid, hand-dyed single-color fabrics, and batiks of a single color will be acceptable. Please do not use multicolor fabric, prints with high contrast in color or value, or directional prints. View Challenge Guidelines here.

Christmas in July Gift Swap

Make a small quilted piece as a gift to another quilter. Small pieces such as mug rugs, candle mats, small wall hangings are useful ways to explore modern quilting. Bring them to the July meeting, with a small, signed note about your design. We will place them in a brown paper bag for random exchanges.
