The Greenville Modern Quilt Guild supports two agencies with our philanthropy efforts. They are “Tummy Time” quilts, which is through the Nurse-Family Partnership® (NFP) and “Quilts for Kids,” which is a program coordinated through Prisma Health.

Tummy Time quilts are donated to Greenville’s Nurse-Family Partnership, which is a community health program. NFP serves first time moms that are less than 28 weeks pregnant who are affected by social, economic, and other risk factors. Each mother is partnered with a registered nurse and receives ongoing nurse visits that continue through the child’s second birthday. Over the past 45 years, NFP has served more than 400,000 families in over 40 states.

The “Quilts for Kids” is also through Prisma Health and is for infants, children, and teens that have experienced some type of trauma or abuse.  The participants have suffered physical or mental abuse and trauma, and are referred by medical personnel, hospitals, or social care workers to Prisma Health so that they can receive exams, counseling, and follow-up care.

Quilt Requirements:

  • All quilts should be made with new materials.
  • Please do not use fabric with any glitter.
  • Please do not use any fabrics that may bleed when washed.
  • You do not need to wash the finished quilt.
  • Please be mindful of pet hair – if you have a pet that likes to lay on your quilts, please consider storing them in a plastic bag until you donate them.
  • Quilt Sizes:
    – Tummy Time – max. size 40″x40″. These should be baby/infant themed
    – Quilts for Kids – 38-40″x48-58″. Lap size for kids; ages toddle through young adult. Fun and happy kid prints are preferred with cats, dogs, animals, and sports being popular choices. Our contact for this program also tells us that the kids love scrappy quilts that are a colorful “I Spy” style that the therapists can use to help engage the children in conversation. The greatest need for this program is quilts for elementary and middle school age children.

Our target is to donate 10 quilts per quarter to each agency for a total of 40 quilts to each agency per year. Distributions are made by the philanthropy team March, June, September, and December.
