The remainder of the business meeting will be held after our Program.

Today’s program was introduced by Michelle Giles, Program Chair.

Our guest, Pat Sanes, collection of antique quilts gave us discussion time in color, pattern and block names from the past. Cheddar muslin was a feature in several of the pieces.

    Programs: Michelle Giles

Michelle reminded us of the Cozy Quilt class next Saturday, August 9 from 1 until 4, and the Elemental Coat class to be held on October 11 from 9 until 4. Spaces are still available in both and sign up is available today.

Also from Programs, thanks to Diana Pickens for our Stripes class last week that promises to produce some future show and share pieces. Next month we will enjoy games with prizes and social time that will be great fun, with big prizes. Cost of Admission next month is 1 Fat Quarter to be used in the Fat Quarter Toss.
And in October we will enjoy Faye Jones presentation on surface design.

September’s Fat Quarter is Fall fabric.

And we will introduce the Ugly Fabric Challenge that is due in November. To participate, bring a piece of fabric that is at least a Fat Quarter in size. Your challenge project must use the Ugly Fabric as a minimum of 1/3 of the project.

For September’s meeting: Please bring THREE (3) fat quarters to
participate in all of the above.

There is a Free Table out today with books, patterns and fabric. Anything not taken will be picked up for ReCraft.

    Philanthropy:

Diane Kent is not in attendance today, but shared her report via Dawn Bianco. We continue to support Quilts for Kids and Tummy Time with 10 and 12 quilts delivered respectively to the organizations in May / June. We have some donations today, and Diane will include those in the September delivery. Keep bringing your donations, as they are needed. Based on new families coming into the programs, we will leave a few extra in the coming
    months to meet their needs.

    Nominating Committee:

Dawn Bianco shared that he time of year is coming for a Nominating Committee to make suggestions for empty board seats to be filled for the invitation was made for several guild members to participate in putting together a slate of board members to be officially nominated in October, and voted on in November. If willing to serve, please contact Dawn Bianco directly.

By-Laws state that a board member can serve up to 2 years before rolling off. Dawn Bianco (President), and Cindy Brothers (Secretary) are eligible and willing to serve one more year in those respective positions. Other nominations can be made for these positions however if a member wishes to make that nomination or serve in one of those capacities.

Dawn Bianco laid out the needs for the upcoming nominations: We are looking for a Social Media person, a Web Master, a Membership Chair and a Vice President who also serves as Programs Chair. An overview of duties for each of those was shared, as well as the need for each Board seat to have one back up person to fill absences and assist as needed at each meeting. That will also serve as a good training ground for future Chairs.

Dawn Holter has served as Treasurer for 2 years. As stated, her term is up and she should roll off the board. Dawn has offered to serve another term, but that would need to be put to a membership vote. Dawn asked for a show of hands to allow Dawn to serve another year, and for any opposition. The hands raised in the affirmative carried, and we will allow Dawn to serve for the 2026 year as our Treasurer.

Following Show and Share, members from Quilters of South Carolina presented their retreat schedule in October and offered their Scholarship Quilt for viewing. Tickets for the raffle were also available.

      Membership:

Teresa Melonson spoke about the value of the membership job on the board and encourage someone to take on the role.

Teresa also introduced our 4 guests and new member, Gail Brunner. The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.

      Respectfully submitted,
      Cindy Brothers
      Secretary

        Committee Reports:

        Philanthropy: Michelle Giles

Diane Kent is our new committee chair for Philanthropy. Two board
members met with Diane and she is excited to take this on. Currently we
serve two organizations. Tummy Time received 35” square or similar sized quilts and has a need for 10 – 15 per quarter. Those are delivered by Jill Erickson. We have 1 on hand so will need more for June delivery.
The Prisma relationship serves abused children who come into the system. The organization leases space at Julie Valentine but is not part of JV. This program serves children and teens and also has a need of 10 – 15 per quarter. They currently have 2 in the closet but we will also need your help for June delivery. We have maintained this relationship through Faye Jones for nearly 10 years.

We encourage you to bring your scraps, batting, material for kits. Diane
will take our donations and put together kits to be made by members just as we did with the kits made by Duski.

Both of these organizations want only quilts right now. As we work with
them in the future, we will see what other needs they may have.
Faye Jones added that sizes for quilts for kids should measure 44” square
or larger for teens. Lap quilt sizes are acceptable.

Diane Kent can be reached via email at: dianeandmike11@gmail.com.
She will have a full report at the May meeting.

The May 3rd meeting program will be Make and Take Projects. The items
being made include a Tool Stand, a Frame Pouch, and a Slow Stitching
Project. The examples are sign up lists were once again put on display for
new members, or others to sign up if they had missed the opportunity.
Slow Stitching is all hand work and you will NOT need a machine. The
other 2 projects will need your machine, and preferably one with a free arm (especially for the pouch). Other tools suggested were neutral thread, glue stick, marking tool, and extension cords. All fabrics, and patterns will be provided.

June Meeting will be held May 30th IN THE EVENING. The start time is
6:30. On Saturday morning, May 31, Sarah Hibbert will lead a workshop
from 10 am until 4 pm. We currently have a full class, but please contact
Michelle Giles if you need to change your status, or be put on a wait list.

Social Media: Alexa Harper was absent, so no report was given.

April Program: This month’s program was Book Review. Members were
to share a favorite book, along with projects or practices learned from them. A list of books shared is included with these minutes, and was emailed out to members as well. A range of projects from Zen slow stitching to a wonderful clock, and a pair of tennis shoes made from kits were shared.

This quarter’s challenge was The Crayon Challenge. A project was to
be made from the 3 crayons you drew plus one added color.
Members who participated in The Crayon Challenge shared their projects as well as resources for making them. Pictures were taken to be shared on our Facebook page. Show and Share (which can be seen on our Facebook page). This was a well received challenge with good guild
        participation.
